During the years of his brilliant career in Swiss Re, Berliner also developed a new hobby. Berliner used to walk home from his work through the park surrounding lake Zurich. Often while he was walking, ideas for poems began to spring in his mind, so he began taking a small notebook and pencil and noting the ideas down. Once he arrived home he developed these ideas into finished crafted poems.
Over the years, Berliner has written over four thousand poems in German, English and, after arriving in Israel, also in Hebrew. Berliner writes love poems and humoristic poems. He has written hundreds of love poems dedicated to his wife, which continues to be a source of inspiration for him every day.
His humoristic poems present topics that may sometimes seem challenging from a humoristic perspective. Berliner’s parents were both Jewish people from Eastern European origins and it is his belief that the Jewish approach of using humor to deal with even the most terrible difficulties, which is expressed in his writing
Humor à la Schmiergelpapier

What characterizes Dr. Berliner’s poems, above all, is their distinctive type of humor. Highly perceptive and satirical, the poems brought together in the book offer a new perspective on various different character types that each of us meets over the course of their lifetime.

I hope, dear reader, that the smiles in rhymes please you and something life-like for you to the humor joined.”
Since its publication in 1982, The Limits of The Insurability of Risks has become one of the most important reference books in the field of actuarial science.
The book presents nine empirical criteria for the insurability of risks, which are used throughout the world to this day.
DThe criteria elaborated by Dr. Berliner are the following: randomness (of the loss occurrence), maximum possible loss, average loss amount upon occurrence, average period of time between two loss occurrences, insurance premiums, moral hazard, public policy, legal restrictions and cover limits.
The development of these clear criteria represented a major breakthrough for insurance firms, which now had a clear method for deciding whether to offer cover for particular types of risks.
